Vertical Focus

We survived our first mission trip
ever in fine shape. We had a
wonderful three days together in
Rockford serving the Boys and Girls
Club, the Rockford New Hope
foundation, and an elderly lady
named Millie, who really needed our
help preparing for the winter. In
between the work, we played hard
at a rousing game of sardines, and
ran around in the gym. A local group
even invited our kids to play
dodgeball with them one evening.
Everyone survived! Our thanks
again to all who made the trip
possible. A special thanks to Bill and
Stephanie Britton for their
contin-ued inspiring leadership and
generosity. Also, to Don Anderson
for assisting us on Thursday. And
finally to Ashley and Chris Bagwell
for chaperoning. We can't wait to
do it again next year!

Looking ahead to the new year, we
will resume our regular weekly
meetings on Sunday, January 8th at
11:15. Be ready to discuss chapter 7
of The Me I Want to Be. Youth
Council will also meet on January
8th at 9:00. We will not be meeting
on Sunday, January 22, due to the
Annual Meeting and Potluck.

And Lent will be upon us before you
know it. Be praying about what it is
you want to give up for the 40 day
fast. It should be something that
would be somewhat difficult to live
without or a bad habit you want to
break. Talk to your parents and
decide together. Maybe they will
want to join in and support you on
your journey of preparing for
Easter.

And keep these tidbits in the back
of your mind. Super Bowl Sunday we
will once again do our "Soup-er
Bowl" Fundraiser for the Food
Pantry. We will have cans of soup
for the congregation to "purchase"
and place on the sideline of the
team they want to win the Super
Bowl. And we will be talking soon
about our spring trip to Chicago and
the 30 hour famine for World
Vision. The famine is in late April.
Lots of great stuff to look forward
to in 2012! Happy New Year.
